SEDATION DENTISTRY

We fully understand that many people are anxious about visiting the dentist. Since we don’t want fear to hold you back from getting the dental care you need, we offer sedation dentistry to improve your experience. Sedation dentistry allows you to relax while we perform a dental treatment. At the same time, you will remain conscious and aware of your surroundings. Instead of avoiding dental procedures, ask us about sedation dentistry.

SLEEP APNEA

People who have sleep apnea never get the rest that they deserve. They have trouble breathing which constantly wakes them up throughout the night. Many people who have sleep apnea have multiple health problems. They are always exhausted. Being tired can affect people at home and at work. They may be miserable and have trouble concentrating. Sleep apnea can also affect their blood pressure, making them more likely to have strokes. There is a big risk with anesthesia since they have trouble breathing.

SLEEP DENTISTRY

Sedation dentistry is separate from medication that you might receive for pain. While sedation dentistry will help you relax, you might also receive a local anesthetic or general anesthesia for certain dental procedures. If the idea of sedation or pain medication makes you nervous, please do not hesitate to express your concerns with your dentist.

NITROUS OXIDE

Nitrous oxide is a very safe form of sedation. It is inhaled and the effects start within a few seconds. It can be adjusted quickly if a patient is too light or too deep. Also, after a few minutes without the gas, it is safe to drive home. It has very little side effects and hardly any effects on the kidneys, liver, brain, and more.

Nitrous oxide makes many people feel happy and warm. It causes a lot of people to laugh so it is often called laughing gas. It is great for sedation when a person is nervous at the dentist. It is also a great pain relief.

Not many dentists use nitrous oxide analgesia anymore. We would be glad to use it if you are extremely nervous or you need some pain relief during your procedure. Our goal is to keep you as relaxed as possible, no matter what procedure that we are performing.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is often recommended for patients who cannot easily receive treatment due to dental anxiety or fear. With IV sedation, our dentist can easily receive the treatments you need to regain your oral health, and you can avoid the discomfort and distress of your procedure. We invite you to call The Dental Care Center at 816-941-7788 for more information about IV sedation in Kansas City, Missouri, and to set up your appointment with Dr. Gregory A. Stiver.

IV (intravenous) sedation is a conscious sedation treatment, meaning that you will be aware of where you are and what is happening, and able to follow any instructions provided by our dentist. Prior to providing you with IV sedation, you will meet with our dentist one-on-one to discuss your medical history, dental needs and any other relevant factors to determine if IV sedation is the best option for you.

Sedation provides medication directly into your bloodstream to help you relax quickly and feel comfortable during your appointment. This type of sedation is very safe, but we will monitor you closely throughout your entire treatment to ensure that there are no complications. Patients often feel as though they have slept through their treatment following their procedure and do not recall many of the details of their visit.

You will need to bring someone with you to drive you home from our office. We also recommend that someone remain with you for several hours after you have arrived home until the medication has worn off.

We invite you to contact our office today for more information about IV sedation and to schedule your consultation with our caring dentist. We look forward to providing you with a comfortable dental visit.
